About the Company

The Fromm and Nieman families have been connected through marriages and businesses way before thinking about joining their forces and creating a company together.

In 1904, the four Fromm brothers invented the ides of what they called ‘The Company.’ Their mission was to produce the most beautiful silver foxes in the world, as well as the cultivation and harvest of ginseng. However, it wasn’t until 1916 that Alwina Nieman-Fromm co-signed a $6,800 loan, and gave the money to her sons – the Fromm brothers – so that they can buy three silver foxes and carry out the idea they had all those years ago. In 1921, Erna Fromm married Edwin, who was John Nieman’s son. After marriage, they move to Mequon together with twelve pairs of Fromm Silver Foxes. At this point, the Fromm’s company was growing, which meant that they needed business help and an infusion of capital, which in the end was provided by John, and together they started ‘Fromm Bros., Nieman & Co.

During a disease outbreak in 1924, the Fromm brothers and Dr. Green from the University of Minnesota began their work on the fox distemper vaccine. A year later, they built their own food manufacturing plant in Mequon, which allowed them to produce their own recipes. The plant also served as headquarters of the company, housing marketing, human resources, customer service, and so on. In 1939, after 15 years of cooperation, Fromm brothers and Dr. Green created and marketed four different vaccines – fox encephalitis vaccine, fox distemper vaccine, canine distemper vaccine, and feline distemper vaccine. This was a major milestone when it comes to fox, cat, and dog health.

In the 1940s, the Fromm’s began the process of creating their first complete and balanced dry dog food, of which the first bag was sold in 1949. Since then, the company has been thriving and introducing more and more products, which brings us to where we are now. Even though the company’s offer is very diverse, with food for different sizes, breeds, and life stages of a dog, our focus will be on the products dedicated to puppies.

Fromm Gold Puppy Dry Dog Food

This product, in particular, is the right choice not only for the puppies but also for nursing mothers. As Fromm emphasizes on their website, “Fromm Family Puppy Gold Food for Dogs is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for gestation/lactation and growth, including the growth of large size dogs (70 lb. or more as an adult).”

One of the main ingredients of this product is the duck, followed by chicken and chicken meal, which is a great combination, since the duck is rich in iron, and it’s an easy-to-digest protein source for your four-legged baby. Just like the duck, chicken provides the puppies with protein, which is their source of energy – it’s thanks to proteins that they can run around and play the whole day. Lack of by-products and bulk-adding fillers means that what we have here is a product of high quality.

When looking at the ingredients list, the first position is occupied by beef, while in the second and third positions, we have pork meal and pea. All of them are high in proteins, and the peas are a great source of not fiber, but also several important vitamins and minerals. It’s also worth mentioning that list of ingredients of this product does not contain any by-products or bulk-adding fillers. Why is this important? Because the lack of them might indicate that what you are dealing with is a high-quality product.

So what have Amazon customers thought about the product after buying it? When it comes to the ingredients, they are very similar to the product we mentioned, with the main three being the duck, chicken, and chicken meal. The ‘Large Breed Puppy Gold’ dog food also contains salmon oil, which is an excellent source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which support not only the healthy immune system, skin, and heart, but also has anti-inflammatory properties.

Now, let’s look at the Amazon page, as nothing screams ‘good product’ more than happy customers. In this case, it seems like the customers are more than happy, as they gave is an overall rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars. The comment section is full of reviews such as this one – ‘This food gets very good reviews from independent testers of dog foods. I do not believe they have ever had a recall on any of their dry foods. Just like in the case of it’s equivalent for smaller breeds, this one has beef and pork meat meal as its main ingredients. What’s more, it also includes dried whole egg, which is an excellent source of protein, and tomato pomace. Some people seem to believe that the tomato pomace is just an inexpensive quality filler. However, nothing could be further from the truth, as it is a great source of dietary fiber, Lycopene, vitamin A, and B vitamins. It also includes salmon oil.

When it comes to Amazon customers, they seem to like the other products better than this one. However, it doesn’t mean that they completely dislike it. If you look at the reviews that the clients have left, you will notice that even though there are some less favorable opinions, the majority is still positive. Overall, this product got 3.9 out of 5 stars, which, if you ask us, is still not that bad.

Between the main ingredients of this product, you can find not only chicken and chicken meal but also brown rice and pearled barley. It’s worth mentioning that pearled barley is one of the positions on the list of foods that are beneficial for minimizing the chance of diabetes in dogs.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find the product on Amazon. However, we did find it on PetFlow, which is a great online shop selling pet food. The customers there seemed to love this product as they gave it an impressive rating of 5 stars out of 5 stars. Reviews such as ‘Excellent product.’ and ‘I would recommend this brand and their food to anyone!’ is all you can see.
